Real Estate investment as a long term strategy

The real estate  investment market is extremely volatile at the moment. Many small investors have seen as much as ten year’s accumulated profit wiped out in one short year. Largely thanks to over-borrowing when credit was offered to poor risks.

Property  investment should be seen as a long term investment only. Any wishing to get in and out quickly are at the mercy of the same market forces as any other commodity market. Values go up and down, but invariably the trend is a long, slow upward movement, with blips up and down along the way. 2006 saw the initial phase of the current decline in values of homes and this trend looks set to continue downwards for the immediate future. At some point this will change, but it is almost impossible to predict exactly when this will occur.

Some markets are seeing more volatility than others. Dubai for instance has seen drops of over 50% in value in a few months time. Some are suggesting that Dubai’s luxury real estate market is finished, and those wishing to invest in real estate in  Dubai should consider carefully the implications of buying real estate in a foreign land.

The long term future should be good for home prices, but the short term certainly looks bleak. As with any investment decision, bear in mand that values go up as well as down, particularly over the next 5 to 7 years as global economies struggle to come to terms with the enormous losses of the bankingsector.

No one is in a position to accurately call bottom, or predict the future price of properties.

A History of Antique Jewellery

Antique jewellery is a popular choice with the discerning buyer. This article describes how antique jewellery varied in different eras and was influenced by the culture and fashion of that time, each period having its own individual characteristics.

Late Georgian Jewellery (1760-1837) – This was a time of worldwide turbulence with wars and revolutions. The style of jewellery was usually small and light pieces, such as short necklaces with intricate motifs. It was also common for the jewellery to feature diamonds or other precious stones.

Victorian Jewellery (c 1837-1900) – This was a time of change with the coming of the industrial revolution and social reforms. This era saw the rise of the middle classes who created a demand for jewellery to be produced in higher quantities.

During the mid 1800s, the fashion was for jewellery to be larger. Queen Victoria was romantic in nature and this was reflected in the design of jewellery that featured hearts and flowers. In the late 1800s there were discoveries of large diamond deposits and this led to this type of jewellery becoming more popular.

Art Nouveau Jewellery (c 1895-1915) – This period emerged near the end of Queen Victoria’s reign and was mainly influenced by a return to craftsmanship. There was more of an emphasis on design quality over the material used. This resulted in a trend towards using semi-precious stones such as amethyst and opals.

Edwardian Jewellery (c 1901-1915) – The reign of Kind Edward was a time of fashion, elegance and sophistication and this was reflected in the design of the jewellery during this period. Diamonds, rubies and emeralds were fashionable and jewellery featured intricate designs.

Art Deco Jewellery (c 1920-1935) – This is a design era which emerged after the First World War. There was a period of wealth after the war and this led to a trend for using precious stones in jewellery. Jewellery design in this period was influenced by Cubist modern art and features geometric shapes and symmetry.

Retro Jewellery (c 1935 – 1950) – This period included the depression of the 1930s, the Second World War and the prosperity that followed it. This resulted in many different jewellery designs and themes. A good deal of the post war antique jewellery is inspired by Hollywood and usually features colourful and elaborate designs. Antique designer jewellery from this era is also very popular with collectors, such as antique diamond rings made by Cartier and Tiffany.

Scottish Police providing 0300 number for non emergency calls in United Kingdom

Tayside Police has a new telephone number for people to contact in non-emergency situations: 0300 111 2222.

The new number replaces its previous 0845 number and is for people wishing to contact the force to seek advice or to pass on non-urgent information.

0300 111 2222 is more memorable than its predecessor and is expected to reduce the amount of inappropriate 999 calls that the force receives.

Telephone numbers with the 0300 prefix are exclusively for the public sector and cost people the same to call as regular landline 01 and 02 numbers – even from mobile phones. Research by one police force has shown that around 75% of the calls they receive from the public are now made from mobile phones.

AAlongside the reduced cost to callers, 0300 numbers offer Tayside Police all of the same call management features as its previous 0845 number.

Neil Sherring, chief executive of Windsor Telecom plc, the company that provided the new number, said: “Many UK police forces are now choosing 0300 numbers because they allow exactly the same call management features as 08 type numbers, but offer their callers totally transparent call costs, even from mobiles. In fact, the majority of callers won’t be charged at all, as 0300 numbers are included in the free minutes offered by all network providers. This is important when, according to Ofcom, 40% of all calls made in the UK are now from mobiles.”

Tayside Police is the first force in Scotland to introduce an 0300 number.

Superintendent Hamish Macpherson, Head of Tayside Police’s Force Communications Centre, said: “I am delighted to announce the launch of the new non-emergency number in Tayside. I personally have attended Community Meetings where concern has been shown regarding how memorable the 0845 number was. Tayside Police was also concerned that calling an ‘08′ number from a mobile phone may add a barrier to the public calling the police. This new number overcomes all these issues.”

Tayside Police joins the Metropolitan Police Service, Staffordshire Police and West Mercia Police amongst the other UK forces that have all opted for 0300 telephone numbers in the last 12 months.

Did you ever try to find a lost friend on the Internet?

Have you ever tried to find a lost friend on the Internet? I have it is not as easy as you might think. I had a good friend in junior high and I have fond memories of hanging out having fun with him. We would hang out listen to music talk just have a great time.

The other day I was thinking about my long-lost friend and I decided to try to find them on the Internet. It seems everyone nowadays uses the Internet so I figured it shouldn’t be difficult to locate him. I pulled up Google typed his name and get pages on pages of results. I checked out page after page but didn’t find any mention of my friend just a lot of people with similar names.

I decided try to narrow my search a bit by including the town and state where we grew up. Unfortunately they were still too many pages to look through for it to be practical to find my lost friend. I decided Google just gave to many results so I would try using a less popular search engine like MSN.

I typed in my friends name and the city and state where we grew up and sure enough I did get a lot fewer results. Instead of hundreds of pages there are only eight. I started looking through those pages of results and I found a couple which I thought would surely lead me to find my lost friend. However, after an hour of searching I still came up empty.

Then I decided to try Yahoo. Since Yahoo search has been around longer than Google or MSN I thought I might have better luck there. Again I entered my friends name the city and state and this time I got about 30 pages of results. I started the arduous task of looking through each and every page and clicking on link after link. Now I was getting frustrated I spent all this time and still cannot find my lost friend.

I pretty much gave up on finding my friend until a couple months later when I discovered reunion.com. I decided to give the site a try and I was amazed at how quickly I was able to turn up results for my lost friend. The service was not free but considering the amount of time I have wasted trying to search in the regular search engines it was definitely worth the small price.

I was able to find a phone number for my friend and I gave them a call. He was very happy to hear from me. In fact, he had been searching for me also. We have a long phone conversation and it turns out that he lived close enough that we could meet for lunch. Although it was more difficult to locate my lost friend than I had imagined it was great to find him and I’m glad I put in the effort.

Numerous Methods To Get Thin

Disclaimer: This post is based on information publicly available in the popular press and medical journals that deal with losing fat. Nothing herein is intended to be or should be construed to be any sort of medical advice. For medical advice the reader should consult with his or her physician or other medical specialist.

With a quick search on the internet, one will find that there are literally thousands of weight loss products being advertised online. It is no wonder that search terms such as “how to lose weight” are among the most heavily searched in the health/fitness niche. Among the most popular are the products that contain some sort of wonder ingredient from another country, such as the brand new guarana supplement. With the acai craze dying down, guarana seems to be aiming for the top of the very same market. Although actual experiences are hard to come by, the drug seems to be doing pretty well when used in conjunction with regular diet/exercise.

Yet another weight loss fad that has been around for years is the notion that our colons need to be detoxified if we want to lose weight and be healthier. A top product in this niche is called the power colon cleanse and is experiencing growing popularity. It supposedly uses ingredients widely known to clean the colon of toxins and pave the way for a healthier, thinner lifestyle. Again, when these products are so heavily promoted it is hard to say how well they work, but from some basic searching online it seems to be doing pretty well compared to other such cleanses.

Finally, there is a third category of fat burning products that are sweeping the world by storm known as vegetable cleanses. They apparently work similar to other cleanses but they boast the antioxidant power of vegetables. A new product in this category is called the veggie9 cleanse which includes many leafy green vegetables that are said to have cleansing properties for the human body.
